Please note, as I am from Quebec, English is not my first language.
Hedgehog’s Island comes from a growing passion for Hedgehogs. Here is our story!
September 2014 - Everything started with Ellie, an adorable brown Algerian hedgehog. She was two years and a half when I adopted her. Her personality mixed with her cute and smart face added to the bond that we created together... that was enough to my love for these beautiful creatures!
January 2015- Then I couldn't stop there... I found Asuka, from Élevage Hérissopy, in Loretteville, Québec. This little one took much more time to bond with, and it has been a hard time!! She was huffing, balling up, jumping on me non-stop... it took a lot of patience and love to develop this very special relationship that we have now. She knows when I'm gonna kiss her so she shows me her little cheek, she turns over more and more to get her belly petted and scratched and she loves to explore around me!
Then when I decided to move on Prince Edward Island, I looked for breeders on the Island. I knew that my passion wouldn't stop there, so I had to know who would be my reference on the Island! However, I could not find any professional breeder.
After many researches and a lot of thought, I decided to start breeding with the purpose of sharing this passion and love of hedgehogs with everyone. I contacted the breeder from Élevage Hérissopy and discussed the project with her. This is not a light decision. Many difficulties and problems can happen while breeding, and we have to be aware and prepared for this. She agreed to be my mentor and helped me out to find a good match for Asuka.
This is where little Peter arrives.
May 2015- Peter arrived in our familly and he was the sweetest hedgehog I ever met. He was so adorable and sociable! After Asuka's madness, Peter was like a dream. He was always exploring, open, confident and kind. He charmed everyone who met him!
July 2015- All together (Ellie, Asuka, Peter, my cats Pablo and Kobe and myself), we moved to Prince Edward Island the 1st of July 2015. We were ready for our new adventure: an Islander's life with a bunch of quill's babies!
August 2015- In our new home, Peter found some good ways to escape and joined Asuka in her bedroom.... From Asuka's first litter survived one baby of the three she bore. This small male was really cute and kind. I decided to keep him in our herd. He goes by the name of Logan and he is a handsome boy!
March 2016- Then my friend, from Élevage La Maison aux Hérissons in New Brunswick, decided to help me out to complete my herd.
I contacted my mentor from Québec to ask her if she could have a match for my future male, Théodore. Nix was ready to go with me on the Island! This small girl was just like her far related cousin (they share a great grandfather together) Peter! She loves to explore, she is very sociable with everyone and she talks a lot! And just as Peter, she is so active, it's incredible!
April 2016- Finally, in april, I went to New Brunswick to get those two beautiful dark hedgehogs, Raven and Théodore, from my friend at Élevage La Maison aux Hérissons.
Then, at this precise moment, the herd was complete and everyone was matched with the perfect hedgehog's lover! ----------------- We are proud to offer baby hedgehogs which are fully socialized and always in top health. We carefully choose our hedgehogs to offer a good blood lineage. We take good care of each of them, loving them more everyday! We have been registered with the International Hedgehog Association since July of 2015. We have our Pet Store License to breed and sell hedgehog's on Prince Edward Island. Your hedgehog is then totally legal to own on Prince Edward Island.
Your baby will come registered, with a pedigree and an official owning certificate with our Pet Store License number.
